SECURING YOUR DATA

Locking the display of Notes
Locking your Notes display lets you protect your data when you are away from your computer, without having to close the databases you are working in. It is a good idea to lock your Notes display whenever you leave data unattended. When you lock the display, Notes automatically clears the screen so no one can see your data.

To lock your Notes display manually

Press F5 or choose File - Security - Lock Display.
Macintosh OS X users: Notes - Security - Lock Display.

Note If you are using a PKCS#11 V 2.01 or higher Smartcard driver set, removing your Smartcard from the Smartcard reader locks the Notes display.

To set Notes to lock your Notes display automatically

1. Choose File - Security - User Security.
Macintosh OS X users: Notes - Security - User Security.

2. Click Security Basics.

3. Select "Logout (and lock Notes display) if you haven't used Notes for 15 minutes" under "Logout Settings," and enter the number of minutes of inactivity that should go by before Notes locks your display.

To unlock your Notes display

Press ENTER to bring up the password dialog box (or PIN prompt, if you are using a Smartcard), and enter your password or PIN. Once you enter your password or PIN, your Notes display becomes unlocked and you can see your data.

Note If you are using a PKCS#11 V 2.01 or higher Smartcard driver set, and you removed your Smartcard from the Smartcard reader, put the Smartcard back into the Smartcard reader and enter the correct PIN.
