MAIL AND ADDRESS BOOK

Specifying the computers where archiving runs and where the archive is stored
For any database (except mail if a policy prohibits it), you can specify whether archiving is performed by a Domino server (server-based archiving) or by your own Notes client software on your computer (client-based archiving). You can also specify the destination computer (local or server) where the archive database will be stored. The computer where archiving runs can be a different computer from where the database to be archived exists, and different again from the computer that stores the archive database. Any of these computers may be either a server or local.

Note If you are archiving your mail and the Change button is not available, your administrator has specified a policy for archiving mail databases that prohibits you from choosing between client-based and server-based archiving.

For more information, see Administration policies for archiving mail.

When the Notes software on your computer performs archiving, for non-mail databases, you can specify the schedule for archiving to correspond to the most convenient time each day for you to leave your computer running. For mail databases, if a policy specifies client-based archiving for your mail, it may also let you control the schedule, depending on how the administrator created the policy.

When archiving runs on the Domino server, you can turn your computer off at any time without interfering with archiving.

If the Choose Archive Server dialog box is not open, open the database you want to archive, choose File - Database - Properties, click "Archive Settings," and click Change.

To specify a performance and destination computer:

1. To select the computer that performs archiving, do one of the following:

2. Do one of the following to specify the destination computer where the archive database(s) will be created. If you select a server, you must have access to create a database on the destination server.
3. Click OK.
