Displaying or changing toolbars
You can pick and choose which toolbars to display, create new toolbars and add them to your toolbar list, and import Notes Release 5 SmartIcons into your toolbars.

Tip At any time, you can use the type-ahead feature to locate a toolbar or toolbar button quickly. When you are in the Toolbar Preferences dialog box browsing through available toolbars and buttons, enter the first letter or two of the toolbar or button name you are looking for. Notes automatically selects the first toolbar or toolbar button name beginning with those letters.

To make additional toolbars visible

You can select the toolbars you want to display for your Notes sessions.

1. Choose File - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.
Macintosh OS X users: Notes - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.

2. Click Toolbars.

3. Select the names of toolbars you want to display by checking the check boxes to the left of the toolbar names in the Visible column under "Available Toolbars." To see what buttons populate an available toolbar, click the title and the toolbar appears below the list.

4. When finished, click OK.

Note To remove a toolbar from your display, deselect the name of the toolbar you do not want to display.

To create a new toolbar

You can create your own toolbar and populate it with buttons that best suit your work needs.

1. Choose File - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.
Macintosh OS X users: Notes - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.

2. Click Toolbars.

3. Click the "New Toolbar" button.

4. Enter a name for the new toolbar in the blank field of the "Available Toolbars" list, and then click outside of the field to save the name.

5. Click Customize and select your newly created toolbar from the "Select the Toolbar to modify" list.

6. Select a button you want to add to the toolbar from the "Available Buttons" list, and then click the "Add to toolbar" button. Continue to select and add buttons until your toolbar contains all the buttons you want.

7. Click the "Save Toolbar" button, and then click OK.

To rename a toolbar

You can rename only toolbars you have created. You cannot rename the predefined toolbar sets.

1. Choose File - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.
Macintosh OS X users: Notes - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.

2. Click Toolbars.

3. Select the toolbar you want to rename, and then click the Rename button.

4. Enter the new name for the toolbar in the "Available Toolbars" list.

5. Click OK.

To delete a toolbar

You can delete only toolbars you have created. You cannot delete the predefined toolbar sets.

1. Choose File - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.
Macintosh OS X users: Notes - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.

2. Click Toolbars.

3. Click the toolbar you want to delete, and then click the Delete button.

4. Click OK.

To import Notes Release 5 SmartIcons

If you have SmartIcons that you created in Notes Release 5, you can import them into Notes 6 to use them as toolbars.

1. Choose File - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.
Macintosh OS X users: Notes - Preferences - Toolbar Preferences.

2. Click Toolbars.

3. Click the Import button.

4. Locate the directory and select the file name of the SmartIcon set you want to import into toolbars, and then click Open in the "Choose SmartIcons Set" dialog box. SmartIcon files have the file extension SMI, for example C:\Notes\Data\W32\EditIcons.SMI.

The SmartIcon file appears in the list of available toolbars.
