The Search icon and menu

You can start a search quickly by clicking either the Search icon - the magnifying glass in the Navigation toolbar - or the triangle next to it.

Search icon on toolbar with menu

What happens when you click the Search icon depends on what you are doing in Notes at the time. For example, if you are reading a document, clicking the Search icon opens the Find Text in Document dialog box. If you are in a view, clicking the Search icon opens the Search bar, which allows you to search for documents in the current view. The view may list some or all of the documents in the current database.

Clicking the triangle next to the Search icon opens the Search menu. From the Search menu you can search for databases or documents across your organization (Domain Search), find contact names or Internet e-mail addresses, find a database using a server catalog, or go directly to an Internet search Web site.

Note The Search icon in the view toolbar performs the same tasks, but does not have the drop-down menu that the icon with the plus symbol in the navigation toolbar does.
