GETTING STARTED

Views, folders, and panes
Views, folders, and panes let you navigate through databases and organize documents within databases.

Views

Views display specific documents with similar criteria in a database. For example, your Mail database has an All Documents view that displays every document contained in the database, and a Sent view that displays only documents that you sent. Views can be created by the database designer or by you.

Folders

Folders display documents. Folders let you organize and display documents as you want to see them. You can also move documents between folders. For example, if you want all of the documents you have received from Bob to be separated from the rest of the mail in your Inbox folder, you can create a folder to put them in. A folder icon to the left of the folder name always identifies the folder. With this release, some folders that are created by a database designer can display the amount of unread documents.

Panes

Panes display views, folders, and documents, giving you the ability to navigate through databases. There are three types of panes in Notes: the navigation pane, the view pane, and the preview pane. The navigation pane on the left side of the screen displays all of your views and folders. To the right is the view pane, which displays a list of the documents from the view or folder you select in the navigation pane. If you choose to, you can open a preview pane to show the contents of a document. In many cases a database can contain more panes and frames, such as the Welcome Page.
