WORKING WITH DOCUMENTS

Spell checking documents
The Notes spell checker looks for misspelled words using the main dictionary and the customizable user dictionary, which is your personal dictionary. The spell checker also looks for repeated words (such as "that that"). The spell checker does not check single-character words (such as "a"), text that does not contain letters (such as 75% or 23), or words that contain more than 64 characters.

The main dictionary is comprehensive but does not contain proper names or specialized words. If you use special words often, you can add them to your user dictionary so Notes recognizes them. The main dictionary used by default in North America is American English (US.DIC), but you can choose another one as your main dictionary, if your version of Notes includes more than one language dictionary. Language dictionaries have the extension .DIC and are located in your Notes\Data directory. The user dictionary (USER.DIC), which is your personal dictionary, is located in your Notes data directory.
