SETTING PREFERENCES


To configure a port
The ports Notes displays in the Communication Ports box depend on the operating system you're using. Notes displays network ports such as LAN0 (NetBIOS support), SPX (NWSPX support), TCP or MacTCP® (TCP/IP support), VINES®, and AppleTalk. Notes displays modem ports such as COM1 through COM5, Serial1 through Serial5, and Modem (all XPC support). (Usually, a mouse is connected to COM1 or Serial1 and a modem is connected to COM2 or Serial2.)

To create and configure a port

1. From the menu, choose File - Preferences - User Preferences.


2. Click Ports.

3. Click New.

4. Enter a name for the port.

5. Select a driver for the port.

6. Select the locations at which you want to use the port.

7. Select the applicable port options.

To rename a port

1. From the menu, choose File - Preferences - User Preferences.


2. Click Ports.

3. Select a port in the list.

4. Click Rename.

5. Enter a name familiar to you (for example, MyNewModem.

6. Click OK.

Notes


Macintosh users
(OS X) If you have both an external USB modem and an internal modem, you must manually configure the USB port by selecting its item in the list on the Ports page of the Preferences dialog box, clicking the New button, selecting its item again, and clicking OK.

(OS 9) If you have both an external USB modem and an internal modem, Notes uses the external modem.
