Adding a background to a document
You can add background color to a document and, if the design allows it, copy and paste graphics in a document's background. You can also import graphics from a file.

To add background color

1. Put the document in Edit mode.

2. Choose File - Document Properties.

3. Click the Background tab.

4. Choose a color from the Color field.

Note You can customize colors by using the color wheel button in the top right corner of the Background Color box. If you want to delete the color, click "Reset to form color." Color wheel

To copy and paste a graphic to the background

1. Select the picture to copy; choose Edit - Copy.

2. Open the document to add the picture to.

3. Put the document in Edit mode.

4. Choose File - Document Properties; click the Background tab.

5. Click Paste in the "Graphic or Resource" section.

Note By default, if the graphic is the same size as the document, it appears once. Smaller graphics "tile" to fill the background of the document. To choose how to display the graphic, select a style from the Repeats field.

To import a graphic to the background

1. Put the document in Edit mode.

2. Choose File - Document Properties; click the Background tab.

3. Click Import in the "Graphic or Resource" section.

4. Select the file to import.

5. Click Import.

Note You can import BMP, GIF, JPEG, PCX Image, and TIFF 5.0 Bitmap files for use as a document's background. By default, if the graphic is the same size as the document, it appears once. Smaller graphics "tile" to fill the background of the document. To choose how to display the graphic, select a style from the Repeats field.

To add an "image resource" graphic

An image resource is a reusable graphic in a database. If the designer did not put any images in your image resource library, you cannot use one to add a graphic as a background.

1. Put the document in Edit mode.

2. Choose File - Document Properties; click the Background tab.

3. Enter the name of the graphic in the text field in the "Graphic or Resource" section, or use the folder button to choose a graphic.

To remove a graphic from the background

1. Put the document in Edit mode.

2. Choose File - Document Properties; click the Background tab.

3. Click Remove in the "Graphic or Resource" section.

Note To hide a graphic in Edit mode, select "Hide graphic in edit mode" in the Options section.

To reset the form to its original color

1. Put the document in Edit mode.

2. Choose File - Document Properties; click the Background tab.

3. Click the "Reset to form color" button.
